Peony Cosmetics is one of the beauty brands supporting the ‘green’ philosophy of the makeup production. The research of the brands and products prior the review can sometimes affect our judgement of the product. At least that what happened with this shadow trio palette. Before we proceed, we have to clear out few things.
As the time goes by, we learn more about the importance of the chemical ingredients our skin has to deal with every day. Naturally, it is an ongoing process and we are far from being specialists in that subject.
We do honestly appreciate all the niche brands that formulate their products with care for the environment and our skin wellbeing just as the Peony Cosmetics does. But this is something we learned after we actually used this Shadow Trio Palette. The first impression of this tiny eyeshadow palette wasn’t very positive.
The Matchbox Size
The mini size of the packaging can be considered a pro or a con. But it is very petite eyeshadow palette. It is shorter than the actual lipstick tube. You might need some extra sharp object to open this plastic container, or you might loose a nail or two. On the other hand, it is a very travel-friendly option.
However, it is not the cheapest one. At the official web page of the Peony Cosmetics, this palette retails for $18. The 3 grammes of product you get makes this eyeshadow quite up in price in comparison with other eyeshadow palettes, even the animal-cruelty free ones. We got this palette in the Styletone Beauty Box. So we had to pick our jaws off the floor when we were putting this review together.
It might be that the price point can be explained by the use fo the natural and organic ingredients instead of synthetic ones.
Ingredients: talc**, mica**, Ethylhexyl Palmitate**, zinc stearate, silica**, kaolin**, phenoxyethanol. [+/- (may contain /Peut contenir) mica**, titanium dioxide (CI 77891)**, iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)**, blue 1 lake (CI 42090)].

As the name of palette suggests, it is in 73,5% make out of natural ingredients.
The After Dark Trio
The colours were selected with the evening makeup look in mind. Those three shadows are just enough to do a complete makeup look.
There is lovely highlight shade, dark chocolate brown to smoke out the look and the iridescent golden shadow for extra oompf.
Each of the shadows picks up differently from the pan and apply differently on the eyelid. The absolute star is the cool brown shade with the coppery gold particles. It can be easily build up but do not expect opaque coverage on your eyelid. This shade blends like a dream with the other colours.
The highlight shade feels the driest and has a lot of kick back. The golden shadow is not as impressive on the eyelid if you do not wet the brush. For the look below we used a bit of facial mist just to force it to cling to the shadow brush. Application with a finger doesn’t really work either.
Peony Cosmetics Shadow Trio Look
You definitely can make this Trio work. But it this easy eye makeup can be done with the Milani’s Bare Necessities palette which is more versatile, and the brown shades are warmer making a more cohesive combo with the golden glitter. And Milani is also animal cruelty-free brand but with a more traditional take on ingredients. With that being said, it is a bit difficult for us to add this palette to the must haves basket. In the end, you have to decide whether it is a product you would like to invest in. So although this palette didn’t rock our boat completely we do suggest you have a look at their assortment.
